I swear I read something along those lines not too long ago. It also added that folks who described themselves as religiously liberal, or with no religious connection, were more likely to believe in UFOs, alien abductions, fairies, gnomes, ESP, ghosts, and so on.

In my own experience, living, as I do, in a very liberal area steeped in New Age liberal bunkum, I have known all sorts of well-educated, sophisticated and artistic people given to panpsychism, tarot cards, astrology, crystal-therapies, astral projection, reincarnation, and animism. It's really quite bewildering.

I know fundamentalist Christians whose most whacked out belief is that there is a God and He became a man. Of course, if there is a God, His becoming a man does not strike me as all that bizarre. But I don't know a single fundie who believes in alien abductions, ghosts, gnomes and sylvan sprites. Those are believed in -- seriously, no lie here -- by my liberal friends. I knew a woman who was wildly well-educated -- a real free-thinker -- who believed she could communicate, through meditation, with her pea plants. And just the other day I was talking with a former colleague, an atheist who thinks himself a genius, who believes that each time he touches his ski team flag he's got in his yard, it brings good luck to Bode Miller.

Bode Miller did have good luck. Therefore, he owes my friend a lot.Bill Gnadehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18343608982238562089noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3547195737073832993.post-53176382395532064342010-03-02T12:19:39.272-06:002010-03-02T12:19:39.272-06:00Pardon the typos. And, that's why they chose me.
Umm, yeah, I'm a person of faith??

I think it might be interesting if the citizens of JesusLand would apply the same skepticism to their religion as they do all others. They can clearly see that Buddhism is a crock, Islam is make-believe, or Hinduism is phony. But fail to see that teir own religion may be fallacious.

(I know some somebody said it better, but I forget the name or exact quote)machttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04073782907747032366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3547195737073832993.post-39201951245896979212010-02-28T20:01:21.705-06:002010-02-28T20:01:21.705-06:00And your skepticism doesn't offend me one bit....And your skepticism doesn't offend me one bit.
