I did check out your links as well.

You said that you are a previous Christian. So, then, are you now a non-Christian theist?

Did you move from Christianity to more of a Messianic type of faith?

I say that I don't want to "infect" others with my doubt. I feel that if I really shared my feelings with friends and family, they would either reject me or turn from their own belief in time. I personally find it burdensome at times to keep my non-faith to myself. I don't really want to cause someone else to go through that. I don't exactly keep quite because I fear I will ruin someone's soul with my doubts, if you see what I mean.

You mention that you prove the existence of a Creator. Your arguments are not unique. That doesn't mean your argument is bad, but I have heard them before.

Science and reason can only work from evidence. Any conjecture is simply a hypothesis. When a claim is made-- a hypothesis is formed. Then, the claimant must work to prove the validity of the hypothesis. The strongest way to prove a hypothesis is to take the opposite view and prove it wrong.

This is the typical mindset of an atheist. Keep this in mind when discussing religion with an atheist.

For example, what if I assert that UFOs exist. You won't believe me, most likely. Your doubt is certainly warranted and fair. Why? Because you expect some physical evidence from either me or the natural world around us.

What if I say leprechauns exist? Same thing. I make the claim, but you await my proof.

And I don't think you would accept a logic word problem as proof of UFO's or leprechauns. Logic word problems can be "true", without honestly representing reality.

This would also go for the Creator. You say a Creator exists. That's your hypothesis, from my perspective.

To ferret out reality, one should take the perspective of the null hypothesis and disprove it.

I don't believe a Creator exists. I could be wrong, just as others might be wrong about UFOs. But, show me some irrefutable physical evidence and I'll be interested. I honestly don't want to rub God the wrong way. Especially if my soul is at risk. And I don't mean that in a Pascal's Wager sort of way. Really.

By the way, if I were a Christian, would my soul still be in danger-- from your perspective?

I don't mean any ill will in my response. And you are certainly welcome to come back and voice an opposing view point.

Mac: Wow! You agreed with the Lion!

BTW, everyone-- how 'bout that address Obama gave to Congress? Maybe we need to discuss that over at the Lion's blog spot.Urukhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05913837011380611461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3547195737073832993.post-27513093768539828342009-09-09T21:20:43.885-05:002009-09-09T21:20:43.885-05:00Wow, I've got to say, you and Lion are both co...Wow, I've got to say, you and Lion are both correct, Uruk.

I was going to add something witty, or smart, or whatever, but you have both written it much better thasn I could ever :-)

I would add. He is the legally elected president of the United States of America. He should be allowed to speak to schoolchildren if he so chooses. Nay, he should be encouraged !machttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04073782907747032366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3547195737073832993.post-45074938813783415282009-09-09T19:11:36.243-05:002009-09-09T19:11:36.243-05:00"Why can't people simply accept both side..."Why can't people simply accept both sides of his racial heritage and simply let him be called an American?"

Because he is an evil Socialist Muslim terrorist out to destroy America...a country he was NOT born in.

"But if you're going to oppose anyone-- have an idea as to why you oppose a person."

I know. There are plenty of reasons to dislike him. He has done some mighty idiotic things. But to freak out over a benign speech to school kids that has been done by *gasp* REPUBLICAN Presidents in the past (including Reagan who spoke at length about his tax policy) - I mean, what the fuck!?

And you are right - it is a double standard. And they are all the more idiotic for not realizing their own hypocrisy. The Lionhttp://www.ludoandthelion.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3547195737073832993.post-69841145296156397152009-09-09T14:54:38.316-05:002009-09-09T14:54:38.316-05:00Hello,

I don't want to drive a wedge between me and my Christian friends and family members."

I am my self a previous Christian. I have told everyone that I have changed religion and why. Everyone needs to get confronted with logical arguments about the validity of their religion.

I recommend you the page bloganders.blogspot.com. His skin color does play a role with those who vehemently oppose him.

I'm sure that his being black also plays a role with many of his supporters, too.

Ironically, Obama mentions in his first book Dreams from my Father that he struggled with identity. Blacks would say negative things about whites. Well . . . they were indirectly insulting his mother and grandparents. They didn't realize (unless they really knew him) that his African father fell in love with a white woman.

But elsewhere, a white woman clutches her purse when he rides an elevator with her. It never crosses her mind that he has a white mother who fell in love with an African man.

Why can't people simply accept both sides of his racial heritage and simply let him be called an American?

Obama seems to have had that problem all his life. He is probably quite used to it by now.

Many other Americans struggle with this same problem every day.

As for Republicans advocating laziness and no education . . . I can't speak to that directly. But I will venture to say that most people who mindlessly follow any sort of mantra have become mentally lazy and resistant education.

I don't mean to say that only mindless people oppose Obama. But if you're going to oppose anyone-- have an idea as to why you oppose a person. And have some facts that support your feelings. That helps to make one creditable.

Many people reject the Constitutional ban on mixing Church and State. But many of those same folks wanted to ban Obama's speech in the schools. That's a double standard in my opinion. But I bet many people who squawked about Obama's speech missed that point.Urukhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05913837011380611461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3547195737073832993.post-3576915664564370852009-09-09T09:39:42.714-05:002009-09-09T09:39:42.714-05:00"should not show Obama's speech because t..."should not show Obama's speech because they do not want their children politically indoctrinated by that liberal, closet Muslim snake our President."

and black. Don't forget - he's black. Let us not pretend that there isn't still a race issue for *many* of these folks. After all, it is why they seem to insist he isn't American and is Muslim, isn't it?

To veer onto my favorite topic (politics) for a moment let me just say that Repubs that freaked out suck. You freaked out without cause and are not claiming that the speech was "revised." Hell no. You don't get off so easy. Grow the fuck up. Oh my gosh! Socialism! No! He freaking told them to stay in school and work hard. I didn't realize Republicans advocated for laziness and no education! Argh!

As for religion in schools? I do believe there is a Constitutional ban against Church and State. Religion DOES NOT belong in schools unless the school is a private school that receives NO government funding.Nicole Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07312823319201028951noreply@blogger.com
